Sunken Hot Tub

Our client in Coggeshall called us to ask our advice on what we could do to improve an existing space under their pergola. They also wanted a area for loungers and continuation of planting throughout. The family had a blow up hot tub but wanted to upgrade to something more permanent.

The natural positioning of the new hot-tub would have been under the pergola however the height of the beams were a problem so after a meeting with our landscaping team Ben suggested to sink it half in to the ground. Our clients also asked us to consider other materials and as they have young children composite was decided upon so we could wrap the hot-tub and provide a shelf that drinks can be placed on. Composite is eco-friendly, really low maintenance and anti-slip so always a winner for kids and it looks amazing too, especially after Camen has laid it!

Lighting was really important on this project as the area will be used a lot during the evening. Warren installed festoon lighting on to the pergola, uplighters to highlight the edging of the composite and strip lighting under the lip of the shelf on the hot tub which looks fantastic at night.

Dawn selected grasses, Agapanthus, Ilex balls, Geranium Rozanne and Japanese Anemones to bring it all together and some of the other plants that were removed from the original gravel garden were planted in amongst the new paving that Ben’s team laid together with the water feature.
