Walk-through Border

If a border is really deep a great way of being able to see all the planting is to create a walkway right through it. We had already improved the other borders in this client’s garden, and we suggested that border nearest the house which was packed full of self-seeded trees and overgrown shrubs be ripped out, re-designed and planted. Luckily, she trusted our vision for a walk-through border!

We chose grass for the pathway as it flows into both lawns at either end and the green of the grass shows off the stunning colours of the plants. This border contains a mixture of shrubs and perennials plus shade and damp loving plants for the middle that doesn’t see much sun. We even managed to get in a stunning tree fern underplanted with smaller ferns that is definitely a wow when it comes to Open Gardens.
